Itiden – Case Lajkamaten

Lajkamaten is a user-friendly feedback tool designed to improve school meal operations. The goal is to promote better meal planning, reduce food waste, and increase students' interest in food. The overall aim is for more students to eat their fill and increase their understanding of food and health.

With Lajkamaten, users can follow votes and read daily comments about the meals. One of the main objectives is to build bridges between meal operations and pedagogy, create engagement, and focus on food. To achieve this, we have developed two central user interfaces:

Student interface

Through a user-friendly interface, students can rate and comment on the food they have eaten at school. The focus has been on making it fun to participate and giving students the feeling that they can actually influence the food that is served. Students can also tick the box for the dish they prefer to eat the next day, so that the amount of food prepared can be adapted to what the students prefer.

Process

Our work process involved workshops where we discussed and designed the functionality to be included together with the project group. By using mockups and wireframes, we were able to clearly visualize the desired features and goals of the project.

In the first phase, a PoC (proof of concept) was developed and tested in a few schools to see how well the students understood how to use the features. An evaluation was then carried out and we found some adjustments to improve both for administrators and students.

Itiden has developed and created a design for both an administration interface for meal planners/administrators and the student interface itself. For students, there has been a great focus on usability and ensuring that it works simply and clearly.

Interface for meal planners

Meal planners are meal specialists who collaborate with districts, schools, classes, and manage voting results as well as comments. Their interface is tailored to facilitate their work and includes various administrative tasks.
